2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility: Introducing Hybrid and Ballistic Variants
The 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU) is set to redefine the landscape of law enforcement vehicles, offering an array of innovative features designed to enhance officer safety, efficiency, and mission readiness.
The PIU comes equipped with the Police Perimeter Alert system, which uses BLIS® sensors to monitor 270° around the vehicle. This system automatically locks doors, raises windows, and activates cameras when a potential threat is detected, providing an extra layer of protection for officers in tactical situations. The system can be adjusted to different sensitivity levels, allowing officers to customise their level of alertness.
Structural integrity and protection are at the heart of the PIU's design. Ford's SPACE Architecture® ensures strong structural integrity and battery security, while optional ballistic door panels provide enhanced protection in dangerous scenarios. The vehicle has been tested to pass the Ford 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals, demonstrating its robustness in severe collisions.
The advanced braking system, featuring 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS brakes, brake assist, and regenerative braking, ensures strong stopping power and control under pursuit and emergency conditions. Airbags, including dual front impact airbags and dual front side impact airbags, provide comprehensive occupant protection in frontal and side collisions.
The 2025 PIU also boasts forward collision mitigation and pedestrian impact prevention systems, designed to detect potential collisions and assist in preventing crashes or reducing impact severity, including pedestrian detection technologies. Evasive Steering Assist helps the driver steer around stationary vehicles or pedestrians in imminent collision scenarios, while Intelligent Speed Assist aids in maintaining appropriate speeds by reading speed limit signs.
In addition to these safety features, the 2025 PIU offers a range of tactical features. The Dark Car Mode, Police Engine Idle, and Manual Pursuit Mode provide operational flexibility, while standard all-wheel drive ensures confident traction in diverse conditions, essential for pursuit and patrol safety.
The 2025 PIU comes standard with the Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO), a two-part security system for the cargo area. The vehicle also features new Advanced Driver-Assist technology, including Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS®, Rear Parking Sensors, Reverse Brake Assist, and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking.
The hybrid powertrain option in the PIU could potentially save up to 838 gallons of fuel per year, resulting in projected cost reductions of approximately $17,500 over a 6-year ownership term with gas at $3.50 per gallon. The 2025 PIU comes with a standard hybrid powertrain option, as well as the choice of three other powertrain options: a 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 with hybrid system (AWD), a 3.3L V6 gas engine (AWD), and a 3.0L V6 EcoBoost® engine (AWD).
The 3.3L V6 gas engine produces 285 horsepower and 260 lbs. ft. of torque, while the 3.0L V6 EcoBoost® engine produces 400 horsepower and 415 lbs. ft. of torque. The hybrid powertrain in the PIU powers onboard equipment even when the gas engine is off.
The 2025 PIU is assembled in the USA with domestic and foreign parts, and it is assembled in Chicago, Illinois. The vehicle is part of Ford's comprehensive line-up of America's best-selling police vehicles, which includes the pursuit-rated 2024 F-150® Police Responder®, Expedition®/MAX SSV, and Transit® Prisoner Transport Vehicle models.
The 2025 PIU's connected features depend on compatible AT&T network availability. The vehicle comes standard with a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster for clearer information display during operation and a Ford modem, with the option to subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics for real-time vehicle data on performance and service needs.
With its comprehensive suite of safety features, tactical capabilities, and fuel-efficient powertrain options, the 2025 Police Interceptor Utility is a highly protective and mission-ready vehicle for law enforcement.
