Reliance and Meta Form $100 Million Joint Venture for AI Solutions

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta Platforms, Inc. have joined forces in a significant joint venture, aiming to develop and scale enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. The collaboration, valued at $100 million, will see the integration of Reliance's digital infrastructure with Meta's open-source Llama models.

The joint venture, set to target both Indian and global markets, will offer a secure, full-stack environment for customising, deploying, and governing generative-AI models. It will also provide pre-configured AI solutions tailored for Indian enterprises.

Legal advisors for the joint venture include Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co and Cooley LLP. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co advised Reliance, with Raghubir Menon and Deepa Rekha leading the transaction team. Meta, on the other hand, was represented by Cooley LLP, with Rishab Kumar, Tracy Rubin, Jenny Ge, Queenie Chen, and a team led by Rishab Kumar taking the lead.

Hogan Lovells also represented Meta in the joint venture, with Jane Ross leading the deal team. John Brockland, Nicola Lemay, Samantha Seiden, Whei Hsueh, Chasse Osborn, and Ryan Reshke were also part of the Hogan Lovells team.

The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025. Under the joint venture agreement, Reliance will hold a 70% stake, while Meta will hold a 30% stake. Both companies have committed approximately ₹855 crore (~US$100 million) under the agreement.

Stella Sarma and Athina Gaki provided global antitrust advice for the joint venture, ensuring compliance with regulations in both India and other global markets.

The venture aims to scale AI solutions at a fraction of conventional costs, with deployment options including cloud, on-premises, and Reliance's infrastructure. This joint venture is a significant step forward in the integration of AI technology and could potentially revolutionise the way businesses operate in India and beyond.
