Alexa 35 camera base to make its debut at NAB Show, as confirmed by ARRI
MUNICH-ARRI has announced the launch of a new entry model for its Alexa 35 camera system, the Alexa 35 Base. This innovative camera model offers a core feature set that can be upgraded via temporary or permanent licenses, making it a cost-effective solution for cinematographers seeking to unlock advanced functionalities without committing to the Premium model outright.
The Alexa 35 Base model comes with a Super 35 sensor, the same dynamic range, colour science, and image quality as the Premium model. It serves as an excellent starting point for filmmakers, offering essential features that can be expanded to approach or match the fully-featured Premium model experience.
Five additional licenses are available to upgrade the Base model, each unlocking specific advanced features. These licenses include options for higher frame rates (up to 120 fps), uncompressed image quality (ARRIRAW), the full 4.6K sensor area and anamorphic modes (Open Gate/Anamorphic), pre-recording for up to 20 seconds of buffered recording, and in-camera ARRI Textures, the ARRI Look Library, and Custom Color Management (Look).
For those seeking a more cost-effective, permanent solution, ARRI offers a Premium License that combines all five individual licenses in a bundle. Purchasing the Premium License permanently costs no more than the price of a Premium model.
In addition to the new Alexa 35 Base model, ARRI has also introduced the Compact Drive Express 1TB, a more affordable version of the Compact Drive 1TB. The Compact Drive Express 1TB offers the same write speeds and frame rate range as the Compact Drive 1TB, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious filmmakers.
