AMD Apparently Geared for Ryzen 9000G (Gorgon Point) and EPYC 4005 (Grado) CPUs on AM5 Platform
AMD is set to make a significant impact at this year's Computex with the announcement of new server-grade EPYC 4005 CPUs and the unveiling of its upcoming Zen 6 CPUs.
The EPYC 4005, codenamed Grado, is expected to be based on the same Granite Ridge silicon as AMD's Ryzen 9000 series. AMD is also reportedly preparing motherboards for the EPYC 4005 processors, providing a comprehensive ecosystem for these high-performance server CPUs.
The Zen 6 CPUs, AMD's next major microarchitecture, are scheduled for release in the second half of 2026. These CPUs will power the flagship EPYC server CPU, the "Venice" model, which is set to feature up to 256 cores and will be built on TSMC's 2nm (N2) process node.
"Venice" will have two variants: a standard Zen 6 and a Zen 6c, a denser core variant optimized for entry-level servers. Both variants will be compatible with SP7 and SP8 sockets, respectively. The "Venice" CPUs are expected to support advanced features such as PCIe Gen 6, 16-channel DDR5 memory with very high bandwidth, and a claimed 70% increase in multithreaded performance over Zen 5 EPYC CPUs.
For desktop and mobile CPUs, Zen 6 is expected to push clock speeds well above 6.0 GHz, potentially hitting 6.4-6.5 GHz and maybe even a single core near 7.0 GHz, enabled by TSMC’s N2X process improvements.
AMD is also rumoured to be working on a low-power, Arm-based mobile offering called Soundwave, which could potentially align with or follow the Zen 6/7 timeline. However, no official release timeline has been disclosed for Soundwave or AMD's other Arm-based product, N1X SoCs.
In addition, AMD is planning to release a newsletter for regular updates on their products, providing subscribers with the latest news, analysis, and reviews. For up-to-date news and reviews, Tom's Hardware offers a Google News feed.
