AMD Unveils Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT Graphics Cards at Gamescom 2023

AMD has announced the arrival of two new graphics cards, namely the Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT, at Gamescom 2023. These latest GPUs join the flagship RX 7900 XT and the mid-range 7900, as well as the lower mid-range 7600 cards. Both cards are equipped with the same RDNA 3 microarchitecture and support AV1 Codec and DisplayPort 2.1.

The forthcoming Radeon RX 7700 XT, despite being positioned as a mid-range card, boasts specifications that would have once been considered top-tier. It features 54 Compute Units, an equal number of RT Accelerators, and 108 AI Accelerators, designed to handle ray-tracing with ease and offer enhanced gaming experiences. Additionally, it comes with 12GB of GDDR6 memory, running at 18 Gbps on a 192-bit interface, and a 48 MB AMD Infinity Cache to reduce latency and improve overall performance.

On the other hand, the RX 7800 XT offers slightly better ray-tracing performance, thanks to its 60 Compute Units, 120 AI Accelerators, and 16GB of GDDR6 memory, running at 19.5 Gbps on a 256-bit interface. This card is a promising choice for gamers seeking higher quality textures and ability to run at higher resolutions. Despite AMD positioning both cards for 1440p gaming, the 7800 XT's specifications suggest it will be able to manage 4K gaming, VR, and high-end content creation as well. The RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT will go on sale on the 6th of September, 2023, though pricing for both cards has yet to be revealed.

AMD's FSR 3 and Hyper-RX software improvements are also worth noting. FSR 3.0, which includes Fluid Motion Frames to boost frame rates, is expected to launch next month, with several video games incorporating it, including CyberPunk 2077, Frostpunk 2, Starship Troopers Extermination, Immortals of Aveum and more. Hypr-RX ensures AMD's Radeon Boost, Anti-Lag, and Radeon Super Resolution technologies can be used concurrently, offering an improved gaming experience.

AMD's recent launch of the RX 7600 faced criticism, as it offered only incremental performance gains over the 6650 XT. With the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT set to launch about nine months after the first RDNA 3 card was announced, it remains to be seen whether they offer a significant improvement over their predecessors.
