Android version of Gemini overlay undergoing a lively, effervescent design makeover
Google's Revamped Gemini Overlay Brings Vibrant Redesign to Android
Google has given its Gemini overlay on Android a fresh, bubbly makeover, transforming the interface from a circular animation that rises from beneath the gesture bar into a full-width pill shape. This change offers a more engaging and lively visual experience, replacing the old, blocky animation that slid up as one bar.
The redesigned Gemini overlay maintains the familiar interface elements, such as the plus menu, voice input, and Gemini Live, while keeping the four-color glow. The new design shares some similarities with the Circle to Search animation, which recently underwent a Loki-inspired update, featuring a glowing portal-like effect. Both animations aim to make search and AI interaction feel more fun and appealing by incorporating dynamic shapes and glow effects.
Google is currently rolling out this redesign in limited quantities, indicating selective testing among Android users before a wider release. Similarly, the Circle to Search animation is still in a testing phase, and not all users have access to the new Live Translate feature, which enhances its real-time translation capabilities during video or live content.
In the new Gemini overlay redesign, a drag handle lets you open the full app. The voice input microphone and Gemini Live remain on opposite sides of the Gemini overlay, just as they were in the previous design. The "plus" menu, "Ask Gemini" hint, voice input microphone, Gemini Live, and the "Share screen with Live" chip all remain in their original positions. The red, yellow, green, and blue glow in the new design remains the same as in the previous version.
