Hot Topics: ERP 2.0 On-Board Unit Snafus
Approximately 1.8% of vehicles equipped with ERP on-board units experience reported issues, equating to approximately 5,400 incidents among a total of 300,000 vehicles.
Since the launch of electronic road pricing (ERP) 2.0 on-board units (OBUs) in November 2023, motorists have reported various issues, with around 5,400 cars facing complications since installation – a figure representing roughly 1.8% of the total number of vehicles with installed units as of June 2025.
Troubles on the Road:
- Gear Up For Bumps: The core of the issues has often revolved around carpark systems rather than the OBUs themselves.
- Rough Terrain Ahead: Despite a broad implementation, users have encountered challenges while working with the system.
Fixes on the Horizon:
In an effort to tackle these issues, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has set up a dedicated support system:
- Helpline Heroes: Motorists encountering problems are encouraged to reach out to LTA's Call Assist service for assistance.
- Continuous Improvement: LTA steadily evaluates feedback and performs updates to improve user experience.
On the Horizon:
Parallel to the ERP 2.0 rollout, they're also pushing ahead with experimental technologies, such as ERP X. This project endeavors to create a more fluid experience. However, ERP X is not intended to replace ERP 2.0 in the immediate future. Instead, it targets exploring new frontiers and potential enhancements in government technology.
- Embrace the Future: As the Land Transport Authority tackles ERP 2.0 issues, they're also venturing into the realm of smart-home devices and gadgets, exploring new technology for a more seamless road experience with ERP X.
- Tech-Savvy Motoring: The implementation of ERP X, a project that leverages cutting-edge technology, offers a glimpse into the future of smart-home devices and vehicles, promising to elevate our daily commute in the near future.
