Artificial Intelligence and Data firm Indicium receives investment from Databricks Ventures for expansion and growth.
In a significant move, data and AI company Databricks has announced a strengthened collaboration with Indicium, a leading AI and data consultancy firm based in Brazil. This partnership, which dates back to 2017, is set to focus on AI solutions and data modernization.
Databricks recently secured a massive $100B Series K funding round, a large portion of which will be used to expand AI agents, Lakebase, and global growth. This investment is expected to fuel the collaboration between the two companies.
One of the most notable outcomes of this partnership is the transformation of Copa Energia's credit approval process. By leveraging an AI-powered engine built on the Databricks Lakehouse platform, Copa Energia has achieved real-time credit decisions, full autonomy over data and models, and a measurable annual risk reduction of $2.5 million USD. Moreover, Copa's financial team has been able to free up more than 270 hours per month from manual reviews, allowing them to focus on strategic analysis and business growth.
The partnership has also led to the introduction of AI Data Squads as a Service. This delivery model is designed to help organizations accelerate complex migrations, modernize platforms, enhance data quality, and lay the foundation for operational intelligence. AI Data Squads are hybrid teams that combine certified engineers and consultants with embedded AI agents, providing expertise across Databricks, dbt Cloud, and the modern data stack.
Indicium's CEO, Matheus Dellagnelo, expressed optimism about future collaborations, particularly in emerging technologies like generative AI, real-time analytics, and advanced data governance. According to Databricks' latest State of Data + AI report, there was an 11-fold increase in AI model deployments year-over-year, and around 70 percent of companies are exploring generative AI use cases.
Databricks Ventures, the investment arm of Databricks, is investing in Indicium, marking a significant step in the partnership. Indicium will also collaborate with Databricks on co-developing AI and data solutions. The company Databricks supported Indicium in its latest financing round in 2024, investing $40 million in the Brazilian AI startup.
Indicium, with over 1,000 AI and data projects under its belt, brings a 450-person delivery team to the table. This team has earned 150 Databricks certifications and logged over 500,000 hours delivering solutions on the platform. The service provided by AI Data Squads aims to help organizations modernize faster and build with confidence. It offers platform fluency, structured delivery, and practical insight for every engagement, adapting to each organization's unique needs.
Kori O'Brien, senior vice president at Databricks, stated that the collaboration aims to accelerate innovation, expand adoption of the Data Intelligence Platform, and drive business value for customers worldwide. The AI-powered engine, enhanced with Mosaic AI, unifies internal and external data, automates evaluations, and embeds end-to-end governance, further strengthening the partnership's focus on AI solutions and data modernization.
