Australia Bolsters Global Fight Against Scams, Renews UCENet Agreement

Australia has bolstered its global commitment to combating unwanted calls, SMS, and emails by renewing its memorandum of understanding with the Unsolicited Communications Enforcement Network (UCENet). The ACMA, led by Chair Nerida O'Loughlin, has joined forces with five other nations to strengthen international communication against scams and unsolicited telemarketing.

The renewed agreement, signed by seven regulatory agencies, allows for enhanced information-sharing and collaboration on cross-border scams and unsolicited communications. The ACMA will use this agreement to assist in investigations and compliance operations, working alongside partners such as the CRTC, KISA, ACM, ICO, DIA, and OPC.

The ACMA's Chair, Nerida O'Loughlin, expressed Australia's dedication to global communication in tackling unwanted communications. She highlighted the importance of international collaboration in combating this persistent issue. The ACMA, along with other UCENet members, recently gathered in Dublin, Ireland, for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic to discuss strategies and share best practices.

With the renewed agreement, Australia and its UCENet partners are better equipped to combat unwanted communications on a global scale. The ACMA's commitment to international communication, as demonstrated by Chair O'Loughlin, is expected to yield improved outcomes in investigations and compliance operations, ultimately protecting consumers worldwide from scams and unsolicited telemarketing.
