Austrian Consortium Launches 'Domino' Project to Simplify EdgeAI
An Austrian consortium, led by TU Vienna, has launched the 'Domino' project. Its aim? To simplify the use of AI on decentralized devices, a field known as EdgeAI. The project, which includes partners like Siemens and TU Graz, seeks to improve AI decisions by incorporating user feedback. It focuses on secure and energy-efficient AI processing directly on local devices, reducing latency and enhancing privacy.
EdgeAI, or Edge Computing, involves executing AI applications directly on devices like sensors or machines, without constant cloud connection. This approach offers numerous benefits, including shorter response times, higher data protection standards, and energy savings. The Domino project takes a holistic lifecycle approach, supporting companies in practical AI implementation, including certification in safety-critical areas and monitoring AI performance.
The project aims to reduce development effort for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and meet EU AI Act requirements. It will demonstrate its results in three concrete application cases, with the Industry 4.0 Platform handling communication and distribution tasks.
The Domino project, with its consortium of research and industry partners, is set to advance the field of EdgeAI. By focusing on user feedback, secure processing, and energy efficiency, it aims to simplify AI use on decentralized devices, benefiting both industry and consumers.
