Author George R.R. Martin Continues to Delay Completion of His Infamous Work

Title: A Dash of Stardust in the Desert: Robert Redford's Cameo in Dark Winds

Hop on board for a riveting ride through the desert as AMC and AMC+ series Dark Winds serves up its third season, starring Zahn McClarnon, famously known for his role in Westworld. This time around, two executive producers of the show made a memorable appearance in a cameo. The season premiere showcased none other than the legendary actor Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin, nestled in a jailhouse chess game. McClarnon's character, Lt. Joe Leaphorn, chimed in with some strategic advice. But the real laugh-out-loud moment? Redford's opening line:

"George, the whole world's waiting! Make a move!"

Okay, so within the scene, it's Martin's character being too slow to move his chess piece. But with a wink and a nod, fantasy fans, particularly those familiar with George R.R. Martin's original A Song of Ice and Fire series (now adapted into Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms on HBO), will catch the meta-joke. The last book in the series, A Dance With Dragons, was released way back in 2011. The much-anticipated follow-ups, The Winds of Winter and its sequel, A Dream of Spring, have left fans on tenterhooks, possibly for the longest literary wait of all time?

Now and again, we do get a tease. In December, Martin playfully admitted that he's still breathing and hopes to complete the books before switching off the life support. Could the Dark Winds episode serve as a sort of confirmation that he's ticking away, forging ahead with the books?

Tune in every Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC and AMC+ to catch the gripping adventures of Dark Winds, featuring Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison alongside McClarnon. In a nutshell, "Season three picks up six months after the events of Season two and follows Leaphorn and Jim Chee as they investigate the disappearance of two boys, with only an abandoned bicycle and blood-stained ground to guide them. Meanwhile, Bernadette Manuelito attempts to settle into her new life 500 miles from home with the Border Patrol, but soon finds herself tangled in a web of human and drug smuggling, with far-reaching implications."

Dark Winds is based on Tony Hillerman's Leaphorn & Chee book series and has already snagged a fourth season. So, hang tight for more mind-blowing episodes!
