AWS & SAP Team Up for €7.5B European Sovereign Cloud, Boosting AI & Data Sovereignty

AWS and SAP have joined forces to create the AWS European iCloud, with AWS committing $8.5 billion to the project. This collaboration comes as SAP shifts its focus towards AI-driven transformation in the European tech economy, a move led by CEO Christian Klein.

SAP's new strategy, championed by Klein, is expected to bring significant benefits to both the company and the European economy. The shift is marked by a $22 billion investment in the iCloud over the next few years. SAP's Chief Technology Officer, Philipp Herzig, has emphasised the importance of AI sovereignty in this transition.

His leadership has steered SAP towards AI-driven innovation and iCloud initiatives, moving Europe away from simply following US hyperscalers.
