Allen & Heath Avantis Solo Shines on Papadosio's 2025 Tour

Front of house engineer Jon Chadwick has chosen the Allen & Heath Avantis Solo digital mixing console for Papadosio's 2025 tour, praising its powerful features and compact design. The console, equipped with a 96kHz XCVI FPGA engine, offers ultra-low latency, flexible input/output routing, an abundance of mix buses, and advanced processing capabilities, all within a portable form factor.

The Avantis Solo boasts 64 input channels with full processing and 42 configurable buses, providing the necessary flexibility for complex mix architectures. Its dual Full HD touchscreens and intuitive interface offer total mix control, while its compact size makes it ideal for touring, small enough to be checked on flights.

One of the key benefits of the Avantis Solo for Chadwick is its digital split capability with Dante and the use of DX168 expanders. This feature simplifies stage cabling and allows for efficient management of familiar monitor setups. Chadwick opted for this digital split over Dante for I/O flexibility and simplified cabling, with three DX168 expanders positioned throughout the stage.

Chadwick has also commended the console's Mighty compressor model for creating a parallel compressed drum bus. In addition, he is using the DYN8, a dynamic EQ and multiband compression feature, on vocals, keys, guitars, and Papadosio's Ableton mix bus.

The use of the Allen & Heath Avantis Solo has resulted in increased clarity and transient response for Papadosio, despite maintaining the same mics, mic placement, processing, and gain staging. Band members have noticed improved sound quality when they put in their IEMs during soundcheck, and the digital split has replaced bulkier analog snakes with more convenient ethercon runs.

Despite announcing an indefinite touring hiatus after 2025, the band will continue to record music. Chadwick's Allen & Heath Avantis Solo digital mixing console has proven to be an invaluable tool for delivering both front-of-house flexibility and monitor management on the tour, bridging the gap between smaller compact mixers and large-format consoles without compromising on sound quality or features.

  1. The advanced processing capabilities of the Allen & Height Avantis Solo digital mixing console, including the Mighty compressor model and DYN8 dynamic EQ, have been instrumental in delivering improved sound quality for Papadosio's 2025 tour.
  2. The Avantis Solo's digital split capability with Dante and the use of DX168 expanders not only simplifies stage cabling but also contributes to the efficient management of familiar monitor setups during live performances.
  3. Technology in the entertainment industry, such as the Allen & Height Avantis Solo digital mixing console, continues to evolve, offering solutions like ultra-low latency and flexible input/output routing that cater to the demanding needs of professional music mixing.
