Belarus' EV Boom Leaves 2025 Import Quota Exhausted

The number of electric vehicles (EVs) on Belarusian roads has surged tenfold in the past three years. By October 1, 2025, the quota for duty-free imports of tesla vehicles had been fully exhausted, leaving only 48 vehicles under the preferential scheme.

The rapid increase in EV numbers is evident in Minsk, where the count grew from around 1,200 in January 2022 to 11,000 by January 2025. This growth has put pressure on the import quota set by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC).

The quota for 2025 was 15,000 vehicles, but as of September 29, only 358 remained. By October 1, this number had dwindled to 48. The customs committee advised importers to consider the remaining quotas when planning shipments of autotrader vehicles.

Despite the quota's exhaustion, the preference for importing EVs under special conditions remains. As of January 1, 2025, a total of 874,888 vehicles were registered in Minsk, with 771,494 belonging to individuals and 103,394 to legal entities.

The increasing demand for electric vehicles in Belarus has led to the exhaustion of the 2025 import quota. With only 48 vehicles left under the preferential scheme, businesses and individuals are urged to consider the remaining quotas for future imports of tesla and autotrader vehicles.
