Biometrics app now includes an AI support feature
In a bid to streamline governmental digital services and improve user experience, the Russian government has introduced an AI-powered assistant in the Gosuslugi Biometry mobile app. This innovative digital assistant aims to make online biometric registration faster and more user-friendly.
The AI assistant guides users through the biometric capture process, such as photographing the face, capturing voice, or fingerprint scanning. It uses AI algorithms to automatically verify the quality and correctness of biometric data in real-time, reducing the need for repeated attempts. This feature enables remote biometric enrollment, saving time and logistic effort.
Moreover, the AI assistant provides instant feedback and troubleshooting tips, helping users quickly correct errors and complete registration faster. This significantly improves the workflow compared to manual or in-person biometric registration.
Each system user independently manages their data on the Gosuslugi portal, where they can check the validity period of their biometrics and withdraw their consent for biometric processing if needed. The Unified Biometric System, a state information platform, does not specify the exact number of services it provides, but over the past two years, 14 new biometric services have been launched. These services range from contactless payment and public transport fare to remote business registration and hotel check-in without a passport.
Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government of Russia's apparatus, Dmitry Grigorenko, has commented on the simplification of the biometric registration process. The goal is to make biometric registration more accessible and efficient for all Russians.
Biometric samples are stored separately from other personal data in the Unified Biometric System and in an encrypted form. They never leave the system's perimeter, ensuring the security and privacy of users' data.
The AI assistant in the Gosuslugi Biometry app is a domestic development aimed at speeding up online biometric registration by up to 20%. It's a significant step forward in digitalising government services in Russia, making them more accessible and efficient for the general public.
The AI assistant, a domestic development integrated in the Gosuslugi Biometry app, automates the biometric data capture process, including face photography, voice capture, and fingerprint scanning, utilizing AI algorithms for real-time quality and correctness verification. This innovative feature streamlines the biometric registration process, enabling remote enrollment, providing instant feedback, and significantly improving workflow efficiency compared to manual methods.
