BMW's Rare M3 GTR: A 12-Month Wonder With 346 HP
BMW's M3 GTR, a rare gem in the automaker's lineup, was developed in just 12 months and packs a punch with its 4.0-liter engine, producing 346 hp and 365 Nm of torque. Despite being lighter than the 2003 M3 CSL at 1,350 kg, it's one of the rawest BMW M3s ever built, earning the title 'race car for the road'.
The M3 GTR's development was swift, with BMW managing to create a beast in just a year. It features a carbon fiber rear wing, trunk lid spoiler, redesigned bumpers, hood vents, and an exposed carbon fiber roof, making it stand out from its siblings. Under the hood, a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine with a flat-plane crankshaft and dry sump lubrication ensures raw power.
Only three production-ready M3 GTRs were made, with the rest being development prototypes that were later scrapped. Each of the three street cars has unique seats and interiors, with an 'M3 GTR' plaque on the side sills and a Euro-spec steering wheel. Unlike the CSL, the M3 GTR came with a six-speed manual transmission and a two-disc motorsport clutch, along with a variable limited-slip differential for better handling.
The M3 GTR, with its raw power, lightweight body, and unique features, is a testament to BMW's engineering prowess. Despite being part of BMW's official fleet and unobtainable by customers, it remains a symbol of the brand's motorsport heritage.
