Boeing Launches New Facility for NGAD and Defense Research and Development Support
Boeing has made a significant move in the aerospace industry by launching a new Engineering Center at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Research Park. The center, spanning 65,000ft, is focused on Boeing Defense, Space & Security Air Dominance programmes and advanced technology efforts, operating under the Defense Industry.
The Boeing Engineering Center is anticipated to create approximately 400 high-paying jobs in Daytona Beach and Volusia County. This development reinforces Boeing's long-term investment in the Daytona Beach region.
The center will accelerate Boeing's work on critical defense programs and deepen its partnership with Embry-Riddle. However, the person commissioned to establish the new center is not publicly specified.
Boeing's investment in the region doesn't stop at the engineering center. The company is also investing $100,000 to support new STEM programs for the Boys & Girls Club of Volusia/Flagler counties and to provide food for students in need through the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida.
The Embry-Riddle Research Park, where the Boeing Engineering Center is located, has been a significant driver of economic activity for the state. It has created nearly 2,000 jobs and generated over $372m in total economic impact in Florida.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the defense sector could potentially save £110m by adopting 3D printing for transformative manufacturing capabilities and supply chain resilience. NCC has adopted Dassault Systèmes' 3DEXPERIENCE platform on the cloud and extended its use to other innovation centres within the UK High Value Manufacturing Catapult network.
Elsewhere, Pratt & Whitney, a subsidiary of RTX, has secured an $18m contract from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for TF33 engine sustainment. Lockheed Martin will upgrade the Republic of Korea Air Force's F-16 Block 52 flight simulators to mimic the advanced capabilities of its modernized F-16 Viper (F-16V) aircraft.
Brookhouse Aerospace has also invested over £500,000 in additional machinery to extend its engineering capabilities, as part of its growth and investment strategy. The addition of such investments further strengthens the technology ecosystems in their respective regions.
These developments underscore the ongoing investment and innovation in the aerospace and defense industries, driving growth and creating opportunities in various regions around the world.
