Chinese Launch Startups Race to Secure Megaconstellation Launch Contracts
Several Chinese commercial launch startups, including iSpace, Space Pioneer, Orienspace, and Deep Blue Aerospace, are in a fierce competition to secure launch contracts for ambitious projects like the national Guowang broadband megaconstellation.
iSpace, backed by a $98 million series D+ funding, is making significant strides. It has developed China's first autonomous rocket recovery ship, Xingji Guihang, set to debut during the first Hyperbola-3 launch at the Hainan commercial space launch center. The Hyperbola-3, a two-stage methane-liquid oxygen rocket, boasts a payload capacity of 8,500 kg to low Earth orbit in reusable mode and 13,400 kg in expendable mode. iSpace aims to launch it in December 2023, with all components already delivered and final assembly underway.
The race to secure launch contracts for projects like the Guowang broadband megaconstellation is heating up among Chinese commercial launch startups. With significant progress made in engine tests and rocket developments, these companies are poised to reshape China's space industry.
