City Worker Keeps Trees Thriving in Summer Heat

André Kasper, an employee of the Central Operations Yard (ZBH), is currently watering young trees in the city area. With temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius, this task is crucial, especially during hot summer months.

Kasper uses a list to decide where to water the young trees. He has approximately 500 trees to care for. The watering wagon he uses has a large tank, holding 6000 liters. When the tank is empty, he refills it at Zechenstraße, with about 100 liters rushing out in just 20 seconds.

In peak summer times, Kasper may need to refuel the wagon four to five times a day, watering mainly in the midday hours. The water used is primarily collected rainwater from cisterns, with no additives added. For some trees, water bags with a capacity of 75 liters are used, releasing water gradually towards the roots.

Kasper's diligent watering ensures the survival and growth of the young trees, especially in the hot summer months. His efficient use of rainwater and careful management of the watering wagon help maintain the city's green spaces.
