Copia's Tech Helps Restaurants Reduce Waste, Feed Hungry

Copia, a tech-driven platform, is helping restaurants reduce food waste and feed the hungry. The José André Group (JAG) is among the restaurant chains implementing Copia's automation technology, with impressive results.

Copia, founded by CEO Adam Gluck, connects restaurants with surplus food to nearby nonprofits. It's now available in 43 U.S. states, Canada, and Puerto Rico. JAG has already redirected about 4,000 pounds of food, preventing around 12,591 pounds of carbon emissions.

The platform automates and streamlines the donation process, making it easier for restaurants to manage. It matches restaurants with nonprofits in need and schedules pickups at convenient times. Other chains like The Cheesecake Factory and True Food Kitchen also use Copia.

Food waste is a significant issue, with nearly 40% of U.S. food production going uneaten. This contributes to climate change. Copia helps restaurants factor in labor, utility, and packaging costs into their donation value and provides tax receipts.

Copia's innovative approach to food waste reduction is making a real difference. With an estimated 47.4 million Americans living in food-insecure households, including nearly 14 million children, every pound of food redirected makes a significant impact. As more restaurants adopt Copia's technology, the potential to reduce hunger and environmental damage grows.
