Created advertisement broadcasted during NBA finals required an investment of $2,000 and took two days to develop and produce.
AI-generated commercials are now stealing the show in the advertising world.
If you watched the NBA finals on Wednesday, you might have caught a wild ride with an ad that pushed the boundaries of sanity. You probably thought it was cooked up by a team of crazed filmmakers. But, hold on to your hats, folks, because the video you saw was AI-generated. Yes, that's right, the Kalshi AI ad was a product of artificial intelligence, and it only cost $2,000 and two days to create, according to YouTuber and filmmaker PJ Ace, who brought this madness to life.
The ad was promoting Kalshi, an online market where users can place real-money trades on real-world events. The AI characters in the ad were shouting their support for the Indiana Pacers (currently leading 2-1 in the series) and betting on things like the price of eggs, complete with an inflatable pool filled with eggs.
Google's latest AI video generator, Veo 3, was the powerful tool behind this eye-popping creation. After posting the video on X, Kalshi confirmed that it was indeed made with Veo 3. With Veo 3 now unleashed, the future of advertising looks tantalizingly attractive, and if Meta has its way, AI-generated ads will be the new norm on their platforms, with plans to fully automate ad creation by the end of next year, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A Kalshi spokesperson said, "We were not specifically looking for an AI video at first, but after getting quotes from production companies that were in the six or seven figure range with timelines that didn't fit our needs, we decided to experiment." They were aiming for outrageous scenes and, given Veo-3's clip length limit of 8 seconds, the commercial was structured to quickly cut between different scenes.
Ace, the creative mind behind the ad, revealed how he approached the project. He wrote a script of wild characters and dialogue with brainstorming help from Gemini and ChatGPT. With around 300-400 generations of prompts, he managed to create 15 usable clips, resulting in a commercial that was 95 percent cheaper than traditional ads.
While it was cheap, Ace believes some brands might still pay a premium for taste. He foresees a future where small teams make viral, brand-adjacent content weekly, delivering 80 to 90 percent of the results for way less.
Google's Veo 3 and the Advertising Revolution
Google’s Veo 3 is a revolutionary tool, designed to empower filmmakers and storytellers by generating high-quality videos from text or image prompts. With native audio generation, improved video quality with realistic physics, better lip-syncing, and enhanced understanding of complex narrative prompts, Veo 3 sets a new standard for AI-generated video technology. Integrated with Google's AI filmmaking tool, Flow, Veo 3 offers an intuitive interface for creative exploration, unleashing the potential for more dynamic and engaging ad campaigns.
While the current cost of accessing Veo 3 is high, the introduction of this technology is expected to drive cost reduction and accessibility to smaller businesses and independent creators in the future. Moreover, Veo 3's ability to personalize content tailored to different audiences could significantly increase ad effectiveness. However, as the AI-generated videos become increasingly realistic, questions about authenticity and transparency in advertising remain a concern for the industry.
As more AI tools incorporate Veo 3 technology, we can expect further advancements in video generation, potentially leading to new forms of interactive and immersive advertising experiences. The future of advertising is here, and it's powered by AI.
