In the rapidly evolving landscape of work, the trend of early fridays finishes might be a response to the increased flexibility offered by remote work. According to Virgin Media O2, the UK's leading digital cable television and broadband service provider, Brits are making the most of this newfound freedom, working from various locations like train stations, parks, cars, and even pubs.

Jeanie York, the Chief Technology Officer at Virgin Media O2, has commented on the changing workplace habits. She highlighted the shift towards a more flexible fridays culture, enabling employees to balance their professional and personal lives more effectively.

Interestingly, data from Virgin Media reveals an 8% decrease in broadband traffic during fridays during the summer compared to winter, suggesting that remote workers are indeed taking advantage of this flexibility. Despite only 48% of UK adults being authorized to finish early on a friday, 32% still do so.

The benefits of early fridays finishes are not just anecdotal. A significant portion (63%) of Brits believe they feel more productive earlier in the week due to this, and 59% do not feel guilty about starting their weekend early on fridays. Moreover, 61% of Brits feel they've earned the right to finish early after a busy week.

However, the story is not entirely rosy. Nearly a third (30%) of Brits have a formal early fridays finish during the summer, but 37% often plan to log off early on summer fridays but end up working late. Additionally, a significant portion (25%) of Brits often feel pressure to stay available on summer fridays, even after the end of the working day.

The drop in broadband traffic is a result of remote workers finishing work early, indicating a shift in work patterns. In some workplaces, finishing early on a friday has become informally accepted behaviour, with 20% admitting to this practice.
