Depop Names Peter Semple as Permanent CEO, Unveils Outfits Feature
Depop has appointed Peter Semple as its permanent CEO, effective August 1, following his interim role since May 2025. The company, acquired by Etsy for $1.6 billion in 2021, aims to become a daily fashion inspiration hub with its new Outfits feature.
Depop's latest offering, Outfits, allows users to create and share collages of items from the marketplace. Users can adjust item sizes, customize backgrounds, find similar sold-out items, and save or share their looks. The feature, introduced in 2023, is part of Depop's strategy to make itself a daily destination for fashion inspiration.
Depop's technological advancements include generative AI and image recognition technology, introduced in 2022. These tools generate product descriptions for sellers, streamlining the selling process. Meanwhile, Pinterest has introduced similar features, such as Shuffles and collages to its main app, offering users a comparable experience.
Peter Semple's appointment as permanent CEO signals a new chapter for Depop. With the Outfits feature and technological innovations, the company is poised to strengthen its position in the fashion e-commerce landscape.
