Disney Plus Unveils Major Changes: Price Hike, Rebranding, Ad-Tier
Disney Plus is set to introduce significant changes, including a price increase and a major rebranding. The streaming service will add an ad-supported tier for $2 more per month, starting October 21. The Star brand will be phased out, and Hulu will be integrated into Disney Plus by 2026.
The revamped Disney Plus app will launch with a new 'For You' tab, a 'Live' hub, and an improved hero carousel. It will also feature tags like 'Season Finale', 'New Series', and 'New Movie' for easier navigation. The changes will roll out internationally on October 8, with Australia and New Zealand following on October 9. The Star brand will be effectively obsolete after this update.
In the U.S., the Hulu app will continue to be accessible until 2026. However, Hulu's prices are also increasing, with the ad-supported plan rising by $2 a month. These changes reflect a strategic repositioning in pricing for Disney's streaming services across global markets.
Disney Plus and Hulu are both increasing their subscription prices internationally, with Disney Plus adding an ad-supported tier. The Star brand will be replaced by Hulu in international markets, and the Disney Plus app will undergo a significant redesign. These changes aim to enhance the user experience and reflect a strategic shift in Disney's streaming services.
