Dresden's 'Elbjuwel' Supercomputer to Revolutionize AI Access by 2023
Dresden is set to become home to a world-class supercomputer, 'Elbjuwel', a joint venture between Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf and Munich IT company ParTec. This powerful machine aims to provide computing power for AI and machine learning, high-performance computing, and quantum computing, fostering technological innovations and digital sovereignty.
The 'Elbjuwel' is expected to be completed by 2023, with key collaborators including Vattenfall, DREWAG, and Siemens Energy. Once operational, it will have the potential to attract researchers and talents in the MINT field, strengthening Saxony's position as a leading AI location.
The supercomputer will be used to explore various AI applications, such as machine learning, neural networks, image and speech recognition, and data analysis. It will also benefit ProKI Dresden, an AI demonstration and transfer center, allowing it to perform complex calculations and simulations on-site.
By reducing dependence on US and Chinese cloud-based supercomputers, 'Elbjuwel' aims to enable digital sovereignty for Germany and Europe. Moreover, it will serve as a platform for industry and research, opening up new opportunities for initiatives like ProKI Dresden to integrate artificial intelligence into production.
The 'Elbjuwel' supercomputer, set to be completed in 2023, promises to revolutionize AI access for industry, small and medium-sized enterprises, and scientific institutions. By fostering innovation, attracting talent, and promoting digital sovereignty, it is poised to significantly impact Saxony's AI landscape.
