Earth Builder Summit 2025 Unites Global Experts in Rammed Earth Construction
The first Earth Builder Summit 2025, organized by the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences and the Institute for Embodied Creative Practices (Shedhalle), brought together around 120 participants from various sectors and countries to discuss rammed earth construction at the Biberach University of Applied Sciences (HBC).
Over two days, 18 presentations delved into topics such as ceiling constructions, earth composite materials, masonry, cob walls, and completed projects. Keynote speakers Dr. Ipek Ölçümen and Julian Trummer stressed the significance of research in this field, while Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Jörg Schänzlin called for standardization.
Participants hailed from Germany, abroad, Scandinavia, Austria, Switzerland, and the USA, representing science, business, practice, and students. Notable presentations included Tamara Haußer's work on wood-rammed earth composite ceilings and Anna Pomazanna and Stefanie Huthofer's research on rammed earth construction in Ukraine's reconstruction. The event culminated in participants creating rammed earth stools and a memento at the Biberach Competence Center for Timber Construction.
