Eclipse Metals Kicks Off 2022 Greenland Drilling for Rare Earths

Eclipse Metals Limited (ASX: EPM) is gearing up for an active 2022 field season in Greenland, focusing on rare earth exploration. The company has received approval to drill at the Ivittuut-Grønnedal project and has identified promising mineral anomalies.

Eclipse Executive Chairman Carl Popal recently visited Ivittuut and Grønnedal to assess site conditions and plan access and drillhole locations. The analysis revealed two large, coincident jarosite, goethite, and kaolinite mineral index anomalies that have never been sampled or drill tested. These anomalies were identified using satellite imagery analysis from the European Space Agency's Sentinel-2 satellite, which showed numerous spectral anomalies indicative of hydrothermal alteration.

The company has received permission from the Mineral Licensing and Safety Authority to carry out drilling during the 2022 field season at the Ivittuut-Grønnedal project. Eclipse has engaged a Greenland-based drilling contractor to undertake the proposed drilling campaign. The primary objective of the 2022 fieldwork is to better understand the geochemistry of target areas and gather data on REE levels in the Grønnedal carbonatite.

Eclipse Metals is actively exploring the historic Ivittuut cryolite mine and the nearby Grønnedal carbonatite complex. The company has commenced discussions with Greenland Government representatives regarding a mining licence application for Ivittuut. Eclipse plans to field check the highest-ranked anomalies as part of the ongoing summer exploration campaign, aiming to make significant progress in its rare earths exploration efforts in Greenland.
