Electric reinvention of Audi's renowned TT sports car in the pipeline

The automotive world is abuzz with excitement as Audi prepares to introduce the next chapter in its iconic TT saga. Slated for launch around 2027, the all-electric TT, often referred to as the "TT Moment 2.0" concept, promises to be a stunning blend of performance, technology, and design.

A Modern Makeover for a Classic Silhouette

The new TT will pay homage to its predecessor's rounded form, but with a wider, more planted stance. Modern touches such as flush door handles, digital mirrors, and a cleaner glasshouse will be added, reflecting Audi's latest Sphere design language. The concept showcases a sealed hexagonal grille with an illuminated Audi four-ring logo, further emphasizing its futuristic appeal.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the electric TT will likely be based on the same platform as the upcoming all-electric Porsche 718 EV. This shared VW Group technology could potentially lead to a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. The new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) architecture, which supports multiple electric motors producing up to 746 kW of power, is also on the table.

Long-Range Capability and Fast Charging

With a focus on long-range capability, the electric TT is expected to offer at least 640 km on a single charge. It will support ultra-fast charging, including 270 kW charging that can charge from 10% to 80% in around 18 minutes using an 800-volt system.

A Focus on Road-Going Enjoyment

Audi's new design chief, Massimo Frascella, is expected to lead the project to reimagine the TT for the EV era. Gernot Döllner, Audi's CEO, has emphasized that the electric TT will focus on road-going enjoyment rather than track use, positioning it as a grand tourer.

Competitive Pricing and Innovative Technology

Audi aims to keep the model relatively attainable in pricing compared to competitors like Porsche, Lotus, Alpine, and MG's upcoming electric sports cars. The interior features an immersive digital cockpit with an augmented reality (AR) head-up display and a retractable steering wheel. The doors are rear-hinged and B-pillarless, inspired by Audi’s Grandsphere concept car.

A Statement of Intent in the EV Market

The upcoming electric TT is seen as a statement of intent by Audi in an increasingly competitive EV market. Sports cars remain integral to Audi's brand DNA, and the electric TT is no exception. If approved for production, the electric TT would mark one of Audi's most significant heritage revivals.

The concept for the new TT is set to debut at the IAA Munich Motor Show in September 2025, with production projected to begin around 2027. The electric TT aims to reinforce Audi's design credentials while offering an alternative to rivals in the premium electric sports coupe segment, leveraging VW Group’s shared platforms and technology with Porsche.
