Electric vehicle powerhouse, Mercedes-Benz, expands charging capabilities in the United States, with plans for Canadian access later this year through Tesla's renowned Supercharger network.
In a significant move for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, Mercedes-Benz has gained access to Tesla's Supercharger network in the United States, allowing Mercedes-Benz EV drivers to charge at thousands of Tesla Supercharger stalls across the country.
The access, granted in February 2025, is part of Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) initiative, which aims to open its charging infrastructure to other brands. This move follows a growing trend, with automakers such as Ford, General Motors, and Rivian integrating Tesla's charging infrastructure into their ecosystem.
To use Tesla's Superchargers, current Mercedes-Benz EV owners must purchase a NACS adapter, priced at $185 in the U.S., through Mercedes-Benz dealerships. A dealership-installed software update is also required to enable Tesla Supercharger compatibility and activate the "Plug & Charge" functionality, which allows for automatic initiation of charging sessions without additional authentication or payment steps.
Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will begin integrating NACS charge ports directly into its North American EVs starting later in 2025, eliminating the need for adapters in the future. However, Canadian customers will have to wait until later this quarter for availability and pricing details of the NACS adapter.
Access for Canadians is expected to be available later this year, but neither Mercedes-Benz nor Tesla has provided an explanation for the delay in Canada. In the meantime, Mercedes-Benz EV drivers in Canada can still charge at Tesla Superchargers using the Mercedes app and a NACS adapter.
With this new access, Mercedes-Benz EV drivers will be able to view real-time charging costs, availability, and routing options that include Tesla Superchargers as part of their trip planning. Supercharger locations will also be integrated into the Mercedes me Charge app and the vehicle's built-in navigation system.
This partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Tesla is expected to enhance the charging experience for Mercedes-Benz EV drivers and further accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.
