Enhanced features for Google Pay now offer Chrome users elevated shopping incentives

Google has recently introduced three new features for Google Pay in Chrome, aiming to streamline online payments and offer greater convenience, value, and global functionality.

First, Chrome’s autofill for US users now displays detailed rewards information for over 100 credit cards. This feature helps shoppers see which card offers the best cashback or points benefits during checkout, making it easier to maximize rewards on purchases.

Second, Google Pay has integrated its buy now, pay later (BNPL) options directly into Chrome’s autofill. US users can already use Affirm and Zip as BNPL providers with just a few clicks during payment. Google plans to soon add support for other popular BNPL services like Klarna and Afterpay, simplifying splitting payments over time without extra sign-ins or steps.

Third, Google is testing a new global money transfer feature, accessible via the Google Wallet online app and Google Search. This test provides transparent fee and exchange rate comparisons from remittance providers such as Ria Money Transfer, Xe, and Wise. Users will be able to send funds internationally, with Stripe facilitating transactions currently from the US to countries including India, Brazil, Mexico, and the Philippines.

With these updates, Google Pay in Chrome becomes more versatile, offering users clearer reward information, integrated payment flexibility with BNPL, and an easier, more transparent way to handle international money transfers. The rollout currently focuses on the US market, but global transfer capabilities are being tested.

The autofill feature for Google Pay in Chrome is designed to make shopping easier by reducing the need to navigate menus. Shoppers will have to select the "buy now, pay later" option when checking out online, and choose their preferred third-party provider.

Klarna joined Google Pay’s "buy now, pay later" option during checkout earlier this year, and its payment option is available in select Android apps and websites that support Google Pay.

Google's global money transfer test aims to provide users with a clear understanding of the exchange rate during global money transfers. The exact timeline for the rollout of these updates has not been specified.
