EU's rescEU CBRN Decon Sub Unit 2.2 Now Operational After Personnel Training
The EU's rescEU CBRN Decon Sub Unit 2.2 is now operational, having completed its own personnel decontamination training. This unit, specialising in chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards, is part of the EU's disaster response procedure and can be deployed when local and European capacities are insufficient.
Recently, the rescEU CBRN Decon Unit of the THW Regional Association Berlin, Brandenburg, Saxony-Anhalt conducted a vehicle decontamination drill, practising on trucks and cars. This exercise was part of a larger three-day CBRN incident scenario practice held at LSTE Eisenhüttenstadt, involving over 70 deployment forces from eight local associations and the Polish fire department.
The training covered a wide range of incidents, including a biological threat on a passenger train, a chemical hazard from a damaged tanker, and an explosion with radioactive release. This comprehensive exercise not only enhanced the professionalism of rescEU CBRN Decon Sub Unit 2.2 but also fostered cross-border cooperation between THW and PSP in disaster response.
The successful completion of these exercises ensures that the EU's rescEU CBRN Decon Sub Unit 2.2 is ready to respond to CBRN hazards, strengthening the EU's disaster response capacity and promoting international cooperation.
