Disassembling convoluted policies and constructing solid foundations out of various small components - it's all part of the gig for ex-minister Cem Özdemir. Now, he's tackling a unique project suitable for his new locale: a Lego spaceship.

"I'm hoping to find some spare time to build it," said the Green politician, speaking to the German Press Agency in Stuttgart. The kit, boasting 717 parts and recommended for 7-year-olds and up, was a generous gift from the new minister Dorothee Bär (CSU) upon the transfer of the research ministry. As the future department responsible for space travel, the ministry previously fell under Özdemir's care following the collapse of the traffic light coalition.

With Berlin in his rearview mirror, Özdemir is making a long-awaited return to his home state of Baden-Württemberg. A Green Party heavyweight, he's tipped to be the party's top candidate in next year's state election. Incumbent Minister President Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) will not run again, and Özdemir has his sights set on taking the helm.

The spaceship aligns nicely with Özdemir's new focus area. "It's a fantastic symbol because I'm aiming to put a strong emphasis on the topics of air and space travel in the state," shared the 59-year-old. Currently, a whopping 40 percent of all jobs in this sector can be found right here in Baden-Württemberg.

Additional Insights:

  • Cem Özdemir's plans for promoting space travel in Baden-Württemberg will likely delve deeper than a Lego spaceship. It would be worth exploring official government sources or recent news articles for more information on specific initiatives and projects.
  • Baden-Württemberg is renowned for its robust scientific and technological landscape. Institutional powerhouses, like the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), play a significant role in various research areas, although details about its involvement in space travel initiatives remain scarce at present.
  • For insights into broader space-related initiatives within Germany, consider researching national efforts and projects housed within Baden-Württemberg that aren't explicitly linked to Cem Özdemir.

The Commission is also proposing to extend the scope of the programme to include the science of space-and-astronomy and technology, given Cem Özdemir's new focus area on space travel in Baden-Württemberg. With his ambitious plans for promoting space travel in the region, a Lego spaceship assembly could be a small symbol of a broader commitment to this field.
