Long-distance journey: An electric vehicle manages to cover 1205 kilometers without needing to recharge. - Exceptional Electric Vehicle Journey: 1205 Kilometers Covered on a Single Battery Charge
In a remarkable feat of electric mobility, a Lucid electric car has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge. The Lucid Air Grand Touring sedan covered an impressive 1,205 kilometers (approximately 749 miles) without a single charging stop, surpassing the previous record by 160 kilometers.
The record-breaking journey, which took place over the weekend of July 5-6, 2025, began in St. Moritz, Switzerland, and ended in Munich, Germany. The route included highways, secondary roads, and mountain passes, making the feat even more remarkable. The list price for an Air Grand Touring starts at 129,900 euros.
Umit Sabanci, Kenneth Schofield, and Fergal McGrath were part of the team that set the new record. Lucid Motors highlighted this achievement as a significant milestone, demonstrating their technological edge in electric vehicle range capabilities.
Stefan Bratzel of the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) in Bergisch Gladbach noted that the range issue is still in the minds of many customers. However, he stated that long-distance trips are rare, and drivers usually take a break every two to three hours to recharge. Bratzel acknowledged that the route on which the Lucid car traveled, which involved a significant descent from St. Moritz (approximately 1,800 meters above sea level) to Munich (around 500 meters above sea level), was a marketing stunt with limited significance.
Despite this, perhaps such a marketing stunt could help alleviate consumer concerns about supposedly insufficient range in electric cars in general. Ferdinand Dudenhöffer of the Bochum-based Center Automotive Research (CAR) pointed out that the ranges of new electric cars have improved significantly in the past three to four years. He added that charging times are becoming shorter, making the range aspect less relevant as a selling point. Dudenhöffer stated that the ranges of new electric cars are now not far from the range of a diesel car.
As of April, only around 500 Lucid electric cars were registered in Germany, which represents a negligible share of the 1.7 million electric cars in Germany. The charging station network in Germany is improving, including fast-charging options.
Lucid's Chief Engineer, Eric Bach, stated, "We're setting new benchmarks in electric mobility." The manufacturer claims that the Lucid Air Grand Touring model, with its 831 horsepower, can achieve 960 kilometers on a test stand. However, in everyday use, the range of the Lucid Air Grand Touring model is likely to be much lower than the record-breaking 1,205 kilometers.
The Guinness World Records confirmed the new record in the category "Longest distance traveled by an electric vehicle on a single charge." This record-breaking journey is a testament to the advancements in electric vehicle technology and a step towards addressing consumer concerns about range.
The groundbreaking journey of the Lucid Air Grand Touring, setting a new Guinness World Record, showcases the vehicle's promising potential in vocational training for advanced electric mobility, leveraging cutting-edge technology to surpass previous records by an impressive margin. As Lucid Motors’ achievement underscores, this milestone reinforces their commitment to developing top-tier vocational training in electric vehicle range capabilities.
