Exhibiting AI-crafted visions: Kunstpalast Düsseldorf displays hypnotic artificial intelligence creations
Artificial Intelligence Transforms Gallery Space in "Machine Hallucinations" Exhibition
Refik Anadol, a Turkish-American media artist and technologist, is currently exhibiting his latest work, "Machine Hallucinations," at the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf. This immersive art experience showcases the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in reimagining and interpreting data in new and innovative ways.
Born in Istanbul in 1985, Anadol now lives, teaches, runs a studio, and installs his data sculptures in representative buildings in Los Angeles. His work often combines traditional media, architecture, and moving images to create abstract, dreamlike environments from data streams using machine learning algorithms.
The "Machine Hallucinations" exhibit is a collaboration between Alain Bieber, curator of time-based media, and Felix Kraemer, director of the art palace. The works are created by AI and are a result of processing vast amounts of data.
One of the most striking aspects of the exhibition is the "Nature Dreams" part, which features landscapes created by AI from 1.3 million photographs from national parks. Another noteworthy piece is "Wald-Pigmentierungen," a projection triptych that emerges from 300 million nature photographs stored by the Anadol studio. All three works constantly change their forms.
Visitors to the exhibition can also experience yoga classes in front of the "Machine Hallucinations" projections, designed to deepen the immersive experience.
Anadol believes that AI, guided by humans, can become "greater than ourselves." He processes these data with GAN algorithms, machine learning models that can generate new data by competing and learning from two artificial neural networks.
The "Machine Hallucinations" from the Telekom collection are eight-meter-high and enveloped in spherical sounds. The 12 Euro ticket is valid for the "Machine Hallucinations" exhibition and the painting exhibition "More Light."

Anadol's work has been exhibited globally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Centre Georges-Pompidou in Paris, and the ZKM | Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe. He is renowned for his virtual works, having decorated the World Economic Forum and the Grammy Awards. Refik Anadol is optimistic and dynamic, often referred to as an optimistic, dynamic poster-American in Los Angeles.

Artificial intelligence (AI), a key component in Refik Anadol's work, is used to reimagine and interpret data in new and innovative ways, as seen in the "Machine Hallucinations" exhibition. The works in the exhibition are a result of AI processing vast amounts of data, demonstrating the potential of technology in transforming gallery spaces.
