Let's Take a Spin: Revving Up the Toyota GR Supra Final Edition on the Track

Experience: High-performance lap with the Supra Final Edition on racetrack

The end is near for the iconic Toyota Supra, but before it bids farewell, Toyota releases the Final Edition, packing a hefty 441 horsepower under the hood. With a whopping price tag of €142,800, it's a bittersweet goodbye for fans. Ntv.de took it for a spin on the ParcMotor circuit, and here's what went down.

Petty arguments about the Supra's BMW ties aside, the fact remains that the Supra's departure leaves a gaping hole in the Toyota lineup that stings. So, Toyota tries to make amends with the Final Edition, offering an additional 101 horsepower over the previous six-cylinder variant.

Before jumping behind the wheel, the Final Edition group took a lap around the circuit with the Lightweight Evo, a lighter version with similar weight (1570 kg). Although the name suggests a more stripped-down design, the Lightweight Evo, with its double-bubble roof, larger brakes, adjusted dampers, and reinforced stabilizers, is race-track ready.

Once familiar with the course, it was time to put the Final Edition through its paces. The beast, adorned in a menacing matte black, proved to be a thrilling ride with its Akrapovič titanium exhaust system and B58 engine from BMW delivering a powerful growl. The gearshift was satisfyingly clicky, but the clutch felt rather vague, like a Kia Ceed.

The 500-unit limited edition Supra Final Edition boasts a 50:50 weight distribution, making it nimble and responsive on the track. Its top speed of 275 km/h and acceleration time of around 4.1 seconds are proof of its performance prowess. With the variable dampers offering 16 rebound and 12 compression stages, the optimal lateral dynamics for different track layouts are easily achievable.

As someone who prefers long-term dynamics over hectic maneuvering, the Supra's smooth performance was quite appealing. Although the instructor held back on the reference straight, the extra power was evident and a delight to experience. The Final Edition, with its 571 Nm of torque, felt more spirited than the original 340 PS.

The Supra's demise is a reality that fans must accept. Here's hoping Toyota doesn't leave this void unfilled in the future.
