In a significant move to preserve the first elk farm in Yaksha, the regional Ministry of Agriculture has been tasked with finding a long-lasting solution to the farm's aging fence. The administration of the Pechora-Ilychsky Nature Reserve has decided to replace the current wooden poles with metal ones in the fence this year.

The elk farm's large enclosure for adult elk, built in 2001, has a fence made of wooden poles and metal mesh. However, the wooden poles, especially in wet areas, need to be replaced frequently due to rapid rotting. This problem has been a concern for farmers for nearly a decade, with some even sending a video appeal to the president two years ago.

The solution comes in the form of drill pipe poles, a type of metal pole known for its durability and resistance to environmental factors. Unlike wooden poles, which deteriorate due to moisture, fungal decay, and pest infestation, drill pipe poles are impervious to rot, insect damage, and many weather-related deteriorations. This results in much greater durability and a lifespan that is 10 times longer than that of wooden poles.

The metal poles for the elk farm's fence were delivered for free due to the help of concerned individuals. The administration of the Pechora-Ilychsky Nature Reserve expects these metal poles to last at least 50 years. The cost of the elk enclosure has increased from 16 million rubles to 27 million, but the long-term savings from reduced maintenance and replacement costs are expected to offset this increase.

The old enclosure also requires repair, and the metal poles for the elk farm are a replacement for the existing wooden poles in the fence. The metal poles for the elk farm are made from drill pipe, a type of steel pipe that typically lasts significantly longer than wooden poles in elk farm enclosures.

Currently, there are 18 elk on the farm, including four young calves. The new metal poles for the elk farm's fence are expected to be more durable and require less frequent replacement compared to wooden poles. This figure will continue to rise due to the enclosure being built to last for many decades. This transition to metal poles is a step towards ensuring the long-term preservation of the first elk farm in Yaksha.

The elk farm's transition to metal poles for its enclosure fence signifies a significant step in advancing the lasting preservation of the first elk farm in Yaksha, as these poles offer greater durability compared to wooden ones, reducing frequent replacement, particularly in environmental-science-related factors such as rot, insect damage, and weather-related deterioration. This development in technology, coupled with the delivery of free metal poles, will contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in the care and management of elk farms, ensuring their well-being for future generations.
