First 400 kW Electric Vehicle Charger Launched in Western Canada by On the Run
On The Run Unveils Canada's Fastest Public Charging Station for Electric Vehicles
On The Run, a subsidiary of Parkland Corporation, has expanded its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with the unveiling of a new ultra-fast charging station in Delta, B.C. The station, located at 8579 120 Street, Delta, B.C., is now the fastest public charging station available in Western Canada.
The new charging station boasts a 400 kW charger, a significant leap in charging capacity. This high-speed charger caters to a wide range of EVs that support high-speed charging, delivering massive power to these vehicles in a fraction of the time compared to traditional charging methods.
In addition to the A400 unit, the Delta location includes three chargers: one A400 unit, two Terra 184 chargers. Each Terra 184 charger is rated at 180 kW, providing ample charging power for many EV models.
While Tesla drivers can benefit from charging at On The Run stations, they may need to bring their own adapter to charge at On The Run's On The Run stations, which currently limits charging speeds to a maximum of 50 kW with a CHAdeMO adapter or 250 kW with a CCS adapter.
The expansion of On The Run's ultra-fast charging stations is part of a larger trend in Canada, driven by federal funding and industry efforts aimed at expanding EV infrastructure. The Canadian government has invested over $25 million in projects to expand EV charging availability nationwide, supporting infrastructure like public ultra-fast chargers to make zero-emission vehicles more practical for Canadians.
As part of this expansion, On The Run plans to install four additional 400 kW chargers in British Columbia this spring, and two more in Quebec. On The Run's chargers support both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, catering to a wide range of EVs.
While specific On The Run charger expansion details or supported EV models are not explicitly detailed, Tesla vehicles are expected to be among those supported, given the general trend in Canadian EV charging infrastructure. Tesla vehicles commonly support CCS and proprietary plug types with ultra-fast charging speeds typically between 150 kW and 250 kW, depending on the model and charger.
All charging sessions at the new station are free through the Journie Rewards app for a limited time. For precise charger locations, supported vehicle models, and Tesla-specific charging speeds at On The Run, current official On The Run or affiliated EV network resources would provide the most accurate and up-to-date information.
- The new ultra-fast charging station at On The Run, which is now the fastest in Western Canada, showcases the convergence of science, technology, and environmental-science, as it caters to the growing demand for sustainable transportation.
- In alignment with Canada's efforts to expand EV infrastructure, On The Run's deployment of high-speed charging stations infuses advances in technology into the realm of environmental-science, propelling the widespread adoption of zero-emission vehicles.
