Former Footballer Jay DeMerit Launches RxS, a Mental Health-Focused Social Media Platform
Former footballer Jay DeMerit has launched RxS, a new social media platform aiming to promote mental health and well-being. The venture, co-founded with FC 26 publishers and Electronic Arts (EA), offers real rewards and seeks to create a positive online behavior.
DeMerit, who holds a degree in Industrial Design, has been working on development and leadership programs since retiring from football. He partnered with LiveWire Digital to create RxS, an interactive media platform designed to be a healthier and safer alternative to traditional social media.
The platform replaces likes and empty metrics with a reputation score based on positive contributions and verified content. It offers real rewards like behind-the-scenes access and one-on-one time with mentors. DeMerit's goal is for RxS to become the next big social media platform, focusing on solving traditional social media's problems.
The need for such a platform is evident. Seven out of ten Premier League footballers face abuse on social media, with one in 14 receiving it daily. At the 2023 Women's World Cup, one in five players received discriminatory, abusive, or threatening messages. Cristiano Ronaldo topped the list of Manchester United players receiving the most abuse in the 2021/22 season.
RxS, co-founded by Jay DeMerit, is set to launch as a new social media platform focused on mental health and well-being. With real rewards and a reputation score system, it aims to create a healthier and safer online environment. The platform addresses the widespread issue of online abuse faced by athletes, with potential benefits for all users.
