Altai Connectivity Project Advances, Focusing on Small, Remote Villages

Altai Krai Governor, Victor Tomenko, announced plans to connect 40 rural settlements to modern services, starting in 2025. Highlighting the necessity of quality mobile connectivity and internet access, the governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that even small and remote villages are not left behind.

The expanded criteria for participation now includes settlements with a population of up to 1,000 people, who can apply for cellular coverage based on the opinions of local residents. The number of settlements to be connected annually is determined at the federal level, with the list formed based on a resident vote.

In a collaboration with Komsomolskaya Pravda, Rostelecom is spotlighting the heroic efforts of the connectivity specialists working tirelessly to expand mobile and internet access in the Altai region. These dedicated professionals, often local Rostelecom employees, engineers, and technicians, play integral roles in deploying, maintaining, and innovating network solutions for rural areas.

Duties of the connectivity specialists include:- Installation and expansion of cellular towers, base stations, and fiber-optic cables to enable mobile and internet services in remote villages- Regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency response to service issues- Engagement with local communities, educating residents on new technologies, and gathering feedback to improve services- Introduction of digital services such as e-government, telemedicine, and online learning- Adaptation of new technologies to meet local needs and ensure sustainable solutions

Through their efforts, these connectivity champions help improve the quality of life, offer economic opportunities, and facilitate education and communication in Altai Krai. By ensuring that even underserved communities have access to reliable mobile and internet connections, they bridge the digital divide, drive economic development, and support a better future for Altai residents.
