In the picturesque town of Willich, Germany, the race against time is on as the deadline for personal applications for the fiber optic expansion fast approaches. The Bürgerinitiative Willich office at Peterstraße 20 is still accepting applications until the end of September, offering a last-chance opportunity for residents to secure a fiber optic connection.

The active bundling procedure for the fiber optic expansion in Old Willich is set to end on September 27th, a critical date that could determine the digital future of the town. With 46 contracts missing to reach the necessary quota, the potential expansion area in Old Willich is currently facing collapse.

The foreseeable, phased shutdown of DSL and VDSL technologies in Germany by around 2030/2031 is a significant factor in the current situation. Experts assume that classic copper lines will increasingly be replaced by fiber optics due to their inability to meet the increasing demands for bandwidth and stability.

Peter Mackes, chairman of Bürgerinitiative Willich, has expressed his disappointment due to the lack of sustainable support for the expansion from Old Willich residents. Hannes Zühlsdorff, a voluntary member of Bürgerinitiative Willich, is urging all Old Willich residents to seize this opportunity before September 27th to secure a fiber optic connection.

The goal of Bürgerinitiative Willich has always been to secure the entire city of Willich with fiber optics for the future. However, the current situation may not allow for this ambition to be realised in its entirety. The last district in Willich without fiber-optic expansion is Anrath, and the active bundling procedure for its expansion ends on June 30, 2024.

Deutsche Glasfaser, the company responsible for the fiber optic expansion, has ceased its direct advertising activities in the expansion area but is making its office available for final talks with interested households. Interested residents are encouraged to visit the Bürgerinitiative Willich office at Peterstraße 20 for personal advice and to submit their applications.

An overview map of the current expansion status is displayed in the office window, providing a visual representation of the ongoing project. The office is reachable on Tuesday and Friday, 3-6 pm, offering a convenient opportunity for residents to seek guidance and apply for the fiber optic expansion.

It is important to note that households without a fiber optic connection could be left behind from digital offers in the long run. As the world continues to digitalise, having a reliable and high-speed internet connection is becoming increasingly important.

In conclusion, the deadline for the fiber optic expansion in Old Willich is fast approaching, and the Bürgerinitiative Willich office is still accepting applications. Residents are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to secure their digital future and ensure they are not left behind in the digital age.
