Freenet Strengthens German Mobile Presence with mobilezone Acquisition and MediaMarktSaturn Extension
Freenet is bolstering its presence in the German mobile market with two significant moves. Firstly, it has acquired mobilezone Germany, a substantial player in the market. Secondly, it has extended its distribution partnership with MediaMarktSaturn Germany GmbH for another five years.
The acquisition of mobilezone Germany will bring over one million annual contract sign-ups, around 300 employees, and locations in Cologne, Bochum, and Münster to freenet's portfolio. mobilezone Germany's 2024 financials show a turnover of nearly 780 million euros and an EBITDA of approximately 30 million euros.
The deal, valued at around 230 million euros, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending antitrust approvals. It aligns with freenet's value-oriented capital allocation strategy and will be financed through committed credit lines. The acquisition was officially announced in early October 2025.
With the acquisition of mobilezone Germany and the extended partnership with MediaMarktSaturn, freenet is solidifying its position in the German mobile market. The deal brings valuable assets and customers to freenet, further strengthening its competitive stance in the stock market today.
