Fujifilm Unveils GFX ETERNA 55: A 102MP Cinema Powerhouse

Fujifilm has unveiled the GFX ETERNA 55, a high-end cinema camera designed for filmmakers. Priced at $16,500 USD, it will start shipping in October 2025. The camera combines Fujifilm's film heritage with a large-format digital platform.

The GFX ETERNA 55 boasts an impressive 44 × 33 mm, 102-megapixel CMOS II HS sensor in a 4:3 open gate format, capturing more vertical detail in every frame. It offers 20 Film Simulations and supports up to 16 custom 3D LUTs, providing rich tonal detail and artistic control.

The camera weighs 2 kg and features dual side monitors, including a 2000-nit 5-inch LCD. It allows hot-swapping external power while maintaining an internal NP-W235 battery. The GFX ETERNA 55 records Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 422, LT, and Proxy internally, along with HEVC/H.265 for lighter capture. It also outputs 12-bit RAW over HDMI for productions seeking the highest quality.

Fujifilm's F-Log2 and F-Log2 C profiles deliver more than 14 stops of dynamic range, capturing rich detail in both highlights and shadows. The camera supports multiple shooting modes, including GF open gate, GF DCI, Premista, 35mm DCI, anamorphic 8K, and Super35, ensuring compatibility with various lenses and production styles. Additionally, it supports Frame.io Camera to Cloud for direct upload to shared storage environments.

The GFX ETERNA 55 is positioned as a gateway into premium cinema, offering a sense of grandeur and immersion akin to IMAX or 65mm film. With its advanced features and robust build, it is set to become a popular choice among professional filmmakers.
