Future Event Unveils Innovations in Transportation Technologies
In a groundbreaking event held in June 2021, Toyota showcased a variety of innovative technologies that hint at the future of mobility. The Technical Workshop, organised by Executive Vice President Hiroki Nakajima, Toyota's Chief Technology Officer, was a closed-door event that revealed some 90% of the technology the company has been keeping under wraps.
The workshop featured a display of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and next-generation batteries, as well as advancements in speech recognition technology, automatic parking, and hydrogen storage tanks. One particular BEV on display offered a driving experience reminiscent of a manual car, complete with a gear stick and clutch pedal, aiming to cater to car enthusiasts.
Toyota's commitment to creating an engaging driving experience was evident in the development of a BEV designed to mimic the driving experience of high-performance cars, such as the LFA. The company is also working on a world-first solid-state battery EV, expected to be released between 2027 and 2028.
While the June 2021 event did not reveal detailed new technologies publicly, it offered a glimpse into the future of mobility as presented by the technologies showcased. The workshop also highlighted Toyota's continuous focus on improving its Production System (TPS), creating a zero-emissions workplace, and promoting public health collaboration.
The workshop was covered in an episode of Toyota Times News, further emphasising the importance of these innovations in shaping the future of mobility. Other recent sources discuss other innovative technologies like hydrogen engines, next-generation mobility platforms, and edge computing trials, but these are from later dates and unrelated to the June 2021 event.
In addition to these advancements, Toyota is also developing a stair-climbing electric wheelchair, further demonstrating the company's commitment to creating accessible and innovative mobility solutions. The workshop was a testament to Toyota's ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of what is possible in the automotive industry.
