Gaming Tablets Take Centre Stage in a Shifting Market

The tablet market is undergoing a transformation, with devices no longer being viewed as standalone screens but as the nerve centre for a connected lifestyle. This shift is particularly evident in the gaming tablet sector, where brands are focusing on performance, platform, and specialized gaming features to establish leadership in this growing niche.

Apple's iPad Pro (M4 chip) remains the market leader, accounting for 36.1% of all gaming tablet shipments in Q2 2025. Samsung's Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra follows closely, offering a large 14.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, making it the top Android gaming tablet. Other key players include ASUS, Microsoft, Xiaomi, and Lenovo, each offering devices that cater to different gaming ecosystems and preferences.

The ASUS ROG Flow Z13 stands out as the leading Windows gaming tablet, boasting powerful Intel/AMD processors, Windows OS, and an advanced cooling system. The Microsoft Surface Pro 11 appeals to users seeking a 2-in-1 device for both gaming and productivity. Xiaomi's Pad 6S Pro offers an affordable high-performance Android tablet, while Lenovo's Legion Tab Gen 2 caters to users needing device management features and a slim, lightweight design.

In the Chromebook market, the story is somewhat different. Lenovo leads in Chromebook shipments, with 3.5 million units shipped in the first half of 2025, marking a 27% year-on-year increase. The rebound in the Chromebook market is primarily driven by the GIGA School Program refresh in Japan, where Chromebook shipments have soared more than twentyfold compared to last year. Globally, Chromebook shipments reached 11 million units in the first half of 2025.

Product differentiation in both markets focuses on operating system/platform, display innovation, performance hardware, form factor versatility, and specialized gaming features. In the gaming tablet market, brands are focusing on high-refresh displays, cooling systems, and powerful processors to deliver smooth gaming visuals and maximum frame rates. In the Chromebook market, the focus is on affordability, durability, and ease of use, making these devices ideal for the education sector.

As we move forward, it's clear that the tablet and Chromebook markets are poised for continued growth, each catering to different needs and preferences. Whether it's for gaming, productivity, or learning, there's a device out there that's perfect for every user.
