Germany's Customs Uncovers Wage, Immigration Violations in Hotel Industry

Customs officials in Germany have uncovered a series of wage and immigration regulation violations in the hotels and catering industry. The Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) of the Main Customs Office Magdeburg conducted inspections on September 19, 2025, revealing indications of non-compliance with minimum wage regulations, evasion of contributions, and misuse of benefits.

The inspections, which involved 73 customs officers and 132 people from 35 companies, resulted in 48 cases requiring further investigation. This includes 11 criminal cases and 13 administrative offenses related to violations of immigration regulations. The minimum wage in Germany, set at 12.82 euros per hour since January 1, 2025, was found to be breached in several instances. The Customs places a particular emphasis on combating such violations in the hotels and catering industry, one of the largest and most employment-intensive sectors and subject to the Minimum Wage Act (MiLoG).

The names of the four companies involved in the cooperation focus inspections are not publicly available.

The inspections highlight the ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with wage and immigration regulations in the hotels and catering industry. The findings will now be investigated further, with potential penalties and legal actions to follow.
