Germany's Hydrogen Industry Unites to Form 'Hydrogen Germany' Alliance

Germany's hydrogen industry has come together to form Hydrogen Germany, a consortium aiming to make the country a global leader in hydrogen production and use. The alliance includes prominent companies such as SEFE, Uniper, OGE, ONTRAS, and VNG, among others. They believe hydrogen is crucial for Germany to achieve industry-neutral carbon emissions and maintain its industrial competitiveness.

Hydrogen Germany was launched at the opening of the Hydrogen Messe in 2023. It includes companies like Luxcara, Hamburger Energiewerke, and Siemens Energy, which is working on a 100-MW installation. The alliance seeks to invest in hydrogen production, infrastructure, and import partnerships to make hydrogen the backbone of a climate-neutral industry.

Susanne Thole, Director Hydrogen at Uniper, and Dr. Thomas Huwener, spokesperson for OGE's management, both emphasized the importance of hydrogen for Germany's transformation to climate neutrality and securing industrial competitiveness. Dr. Hans Dieter Hermes, EVP Hydrogen & Clean Energies at SEFE, called for pragmatic regulation to support the hydrogen ramp-up in Germany and Europe.

Hydrogen Germany aims to establish Germany as a hydrogen nation, securing industrial jobs, energy supply security, and technological leadership. The consortium calls on the federal government to support the market ramp-up of hydrogen, highlighting the need for immediate investments in the sector.
