Google Drive's New AI Scanner Automatically Identifies & Scans Documents
Google Drive has introduced a new test feature following the Material 3 Expressive update, potentially affecting its AI scanner in Labs. This update, rolling out to more devices including wearables and Pixel devices, could significantly enhance the scanning experience.
Material 3 Expressive, a substantial redesign for Android, aims to create a more vibrant and expressive digital environment. It focuses on ease of use, with many UI elements altered to improve usability. In Google Drive, this redesign extends to the scanner viewfinder, now filling the entire top portion of the screen.
The company behind this reissue of the document scanner, Google itself, is reportedly testing an upgraded AI scanner. This new feature runs autonomously without user input, automatically identifying, scanning, and adding files to your Drive storage. The AI scanner even identifies documents with colored outlines when paused, allowing users to pause or stop the automatic scanning feature at their convenience. The updated scanner is being tested via a new card that appears when opening the feature in Google Drive Labs.
