Google's Artificial Intelligence (AI) feature is now available in India. Here's how to activate and utilize it:

Google has unveiled a new AI-powered search mode, called AI Mode, designed to transform the search engine into an "answer engine." This innovative feature is now accessible to all users signed into their Google accounts on desktop and mobile devices.

The AI Mode works by breaking down complex user queries into smaller sub-questions, a technique known as query fan-out. It then issues multiple searches in parallel across the web, synthesizing the gathered information into a comprehensive, easy-to-understand response. This allows AI Mode to handle layered questions that normally require multiple searches, providing more detailed and well-rounded answers from various sources.

Powered by Google's advanced Gemini 2.5 large language model, AI Mode offers improved reasoning, coding understanding, and supports multimodal inputs such as voice queries and image submissions through Google Lens. The deep integration with Google's existing web infrastructure—including Knowledge Graph and real-time data—ensures the answers are relevant and up-to-date. If AI Mode is not confident in its generated response, it falls back to the traditional search results for the user.

To enable AI Mode on desktop, users simply need to look for a new "AI Mode" tab near the usual search categories like “All” at the top of the search results page. Clicking this tab switches your interface into AI Mode, where you receive AI-generated answers at the top of the results. If you do not see it yet, you can try enabling AI Mode via Google Search Labs, where it was initially offered as an opt-in experiment before becoming broadly available.

Notably, AI Mode is inaccessible in incognito mode or when users are logged out. It is positioned alongside other tabs like "All," "Images," and "News," and the AI Mode button can be found below the search bar on the results page. The new AI mode offers follow-up questions, detailed answers to complex queries, and a comprehensive response with helpful links.

In addition, the AI Mode in search supports text queries and is accessible on the Google Search desktop version. Google has removed the requirement for users to sign up via Search Labs to access AI Mode. The AI Mode in search also offers a hands-free way to interact by responding to audio prompts, making it even more user-friendly.

This latest development marks a significant step forward in Google's ongoing efforts to improve the search experience, making it more interactive, comprehensive, and tailored to the user's needs. With AI Mode, Google Search is poised to become an even more indispensable tool in our digital lives.

Smartphones and technology have made it possible for users to access AI Mode, a new feature from Google, on their mobile devices. This advanced search mode, driven by Google's artificial-intelligence, offers improved reasoning, voice queries, and image submissions, Enhancing the search engine into an "answer engine" that delivers comprehensive and up-to-date answers.
