High-performance Sony CFexpress Memory Cards now available, boasting lightning-fast speeds of 1700 MB per second for unrivaled 8K and uncompressed RAW video recording.

Sony has made a significant leap in the world of memory cards with the launch of two new CFexpress Type A models, the Tough 960GB CEA-G960T and the Tough 1920GB CEA-G1920T. These memory cards boast impressive speeds of up to 1800 MB/s for data reading and 1700 MB/s for data writing, making them some of the fastest CFexpress Type A cards currently available.

The new Sony memory cards are part of the Tough series, boasting around five times the drop resistance and ten times the bend strength of a typical Type A standard card. They are also IP57-rated for dust and water resistance, offering protection against dust, water, high temperatures, x-rays, and UV exposure.

These memory cards are designed for high-speed applications such as professional videography and photography, offering excellent performance and durability. With their Video Performance Guarantee, they are suitable for shooting 8K H.265/XAVC HS 4:2:0 10-Bit on the Sony A1 II, ensuring stable video recording at 400MB/s.

In addition to the new memory cards, Sony is also launching the MRW-G3 card reader to support CFexpress 4 and USB 40Gbps for faster transfers to a computer. However, the international pricing and availability of the new memory cards and the MRW-G3 card reader have not yet been announced.

The retail price for the 960GB Sony Tough CFexpress Type A memory card is set at $585, while the 1920GB model retails for $950. In Australian dollars, the 960GB card costs around AU$895 and the 1920GB costs around AU$1,454. The expected retail price for the MRW-G3 card reader is about $150 in the US, £110 in the UK, and around AU$230 in Australia.

Hillary K. Grigonis, a licensed drone pilot and the US coverage lead for Digital Camera World, has over a decade of experience writing about cameras and technology. She is well-positioned to provide insights into the impact of these new memory cards on the field of professional photography and videography.

Meanwhile, the SanDisk PRO-CINEMA CFexpress Type A card offers up to 1800 MB/s read speeds and 1650 MB/s write speeds, with capacities available up to 960GB. While its price is not specified in recent updates, it is generally competitive with other high-speed CFexpress Type A cards, offering up to 7.5-meter drop protection, bend protection up to 150 Newtons, and IP57 water and dust resistance.

These new Sony memory cards represent a significant step forward in the world of high-speed data storage, offering impressive speeds, durability, and resistance to various environmental factors. They are set to redefine the standards for professional videography and photography, making data transfer and storage faster and more reliable than ever before.
