Nexceris' Li-ion Tamer® Acquired by Honeywell for Enhanced Battery Safety Solutions

In a significant move for the lithium-ion battery monitoring industry, Honeywell has acquired Nexceris' Li-ion Tamer®. This acquisition strengthens Honeywell's portfolio of fire life safety technologies with advanced early detection capabilities for lithium-ion battery fires.

Li-ion Tamer is a leading provider of off-gas detection technology, capable of detecting early signs of thermal runaway—an event that can cause catastrophic battery fires—by sensing battery off-gassing, which typically precedes the fire. This technology can provide warnings up to 30 minutes in advance, offering critical time for intervention and preventing system loss.

The acquisition integrates Li-ion Tamer’s differentiated technology and its more than 30 global patents into Honeywell’s broader fire detection suite, including products like VESDA for early smoke detection and Connected Life Safety Services running on the Honeywell Forge IoT platform. This synergy strengthens Honeywell’s leadership in early gas detection and battery fire prevention, particularly for high-growth sectors such as renewable energy, grid-scale energy storage, data centers, and electric vehicle infrastructure, where lithium-ion battery use is rapidly expanding and fire risks are increasing.

By bringing Li-ion Tamer fully in-house after five years of partnership with Nexceris, Honeywell expects to accelerate the growth of its fire detection business and better address the critical need for battery safety solutions as global demand for lithium-ion batteries grows by over 30% annually through 2030, reaching a market value above $400 billion.

For Nexceris, the sale of Li-ion Tamer enables the company to focus on related breakthrough technologies across numerous energy markets, excluding Li-ion Tamer®. Nexceris' collaborative model involves combining client technology with the company's scientific and engineering expertise to accelerate commercialization and deliver measurable results.

In the future, Honeywell's acquisition of Li-ion Tamer positions the company to support safer deployment of large-scale lithium-ion battery systems—vital for renewable energy integration, grid stability, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure—by enabling early warning and prevention of thermal runaway events. This reduces the risk of devastating fires, potentially lowering operational costs, insurance risks, and improving system reliability and user confidence in energy storage technologies.

The transaction is financially accretive to Honeywell and builds on a long-term strategic collaboration, signaling a continuing focus on innovation for battery safety within the building automation and energy sectors.
